September Family Day Event
written by Rosharon Hayes
Our 2008 September JandJ Day activity was held at the Dulles Golf Center in Sterling, Virginia. This was a terrific chapter-wide activity and a great location. All of our children from group a through the teens found loads of activities to do. Our members were able to enjoy playing in the sand pit with tons of beach toys and wagons, mini-golf, driving range, batting cage, basketball and horseshoes. All of the families reported having a great time. The dads even reported having a good time despite missing Sunday Football. The families dined on barbecue, hotdogs, plenty of sides, cookies and a lovely cake. We added a little education to the activity with a game geared toward teaching the children about Carole Robertson. We wanted to educate our children on the tragic occurrence that took this young girl’s life. This was a wonderful opportunity for our children and husbands to join us in honoring Carole Robertson this year. Our families enjoyed good food, lots of exercise, the company of good friends and family in addition to our African-American history lesson. Wow, we covered a lot in three hours!
